Based on a true story, this is a coming of age film about a thirteen-year- old Calcutta boy, who went on to create history in the revered Snooker Club circuits of the city in the nineties.
 
Midi, the younger son of prolific snooker player, Toolsidas is heart- broken when he witnesses his father lose to five times winner Jimmy Tandon in the Finals of the Club Championship; that too by unfair means.
 
From here on, begins the most heart-wrenching journey of a little boy aided by his seventeen-year-old gambler brother. They travel into the shady interiors of Calcutta to find a rundown snooker ghetto, occupied by rowdy lungiwala’s. Here Midi finds Mohd. Salaam; a lungi-clad National champion from the past.
 
From secretly bunking school and travelling alone into the underbelly of the city to convincing his adamant brother to invest in him; from melting the unapproachable Mohd. Salaam to managing an impossible entry into a ‘16 years and above’ tournament. Midi does everything possible and beyond, only to be up against Jimmy Tandon in the most fascinating Final ever.
 
To bring his broken family back together again. To put a new name up on the board. That of his father’s son.

Trivia

The film is based on the Director, Mridul's childhood.

Sadly, Rajiv Kapoor passed away before he could watch the film. It is considered to be one of his finest works.

The film won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and so did Varun Buddhadev who plays the role of Midi for the Child Actor Category.

Sanjay Dutt and Rajiv Kapoor started their careers in the 1980s however, this was the first and only time they shared the screen.

Rajiv Kapoor's style of wearing his glasses upside down momentarily was inspired by British snooker legend Dennis Taylor.
